Dear Friends,
First, belated good wishes for a safe and peaceful New Year.
The Church Council met recently and decided that because of the high incidence of Coronavirus on the island, we will, with immediate effect, suspend all church services for four weeks.
This means that there will not be a Sunday service on the 24th and 31st of January and the 7th and 14th of February. We will of course be monitoring the situation regularly and if anything changes, we will let you know. If it is considered safe so to do, we will restart the Sunday services on February 21st at 11.00 a.m. which is the first Sunday of Lent.
I understand that for a lot of people, the worship community at Holy Trinity is extremely important and the lack of regular services is difficult. The decision to suspend the services was not taken lightly, but a number of our congregation are categorised as ‘vulnerable’ and it is our Christian duty to protect both those and ourselves.
It has been a long and arduous year for everyone, but the indications are, if we are patient and by God’s grace, we can be positive about the future.
With my prayers and blessings.
Fthr. Michael
Chaplain, Holy Trinity Funchal.
Thank you. Your dear island is in my prayers.

Fr Michael, Mtr Elizabeth Gomes here from Wichita KS USA. So sorry to hear you need to close. Our church has been closed since last Mar 2020. We have a very vulnerable congregation. Online HE with spiritual communion has been well accepted as a decent alternative. You Tube Zoom Facebook all have worked well. Zoom seems to be the best. With prayers and hope that soon this virus will be a thing of the past. Mtr Elizabeth
